With this lite version of User and Group Manager, you can manage users and groups defined on network servers from your workstation. For additional information about User and Group Manager, please refer to the Using Your Software manual posted with this software.

This lite version of User and Group Manager is provided as a convenience to Apple's AppleShare and AppleShare IP server administrators. Technical support is NOT available for users of this version.
IMPORTANT
Please note that this lite version of User and Group Manager 1.1 allows you to manage users and groups on AppleShare 3.x and up and AppleShare IP 5.x servers only. The full version of User and Group Manager 1.1, shipping as part of the Apple Network Administrator Toolkit v 2.0, also provides the ability to manage At Ease and FirstClass servers. The Using Your Software manual was not modified for this version of User and Group Manager and still contains references to managing At Ease and First Class servers.
User and Group Manager v 1.1 consists of two software components:
• User and Group Manager
An application program that lets you manage users and groups on AppleShare and AppleShare IP servers.
• User and Group Manager server software
Called an "agent," software that allows the User and Group Manager application to communicate with the server.
User and Group Manager lets you copy users and groups from one server to another, or from one group to another, using drag-and-drop methods. With this feature, you don't have to reenter user and group information when you want to use the same users and groups on different servers.
The application also lets you create new users and groups on a server, add users to groups, remove users from groups, and delete users and groups. You can even change the attributes for users, such as their login privileges.
You can also compare groups on the same server or different servers to make sure that each group has the same users.
Requirements
The "User and Group Manager" application requires:
• System 7.1 or higher
• AppleTalk network (User and Group Manager does not support TCP/IP connections.)
• Drag Manager
• Thread Manager
The "AppleShare Agent" requires:
• System 7.1 or later
• Thread Manager
• AppleShare 3.x or later, or AppleShare IP 5.x or later
Installing the User and Group Manager application
The User and Group Manager application may be run from any workstation connected to the AppleShare server on an AppleTalk network.
If the workstation is using System Software older than version 7.5, make sure the Thread Manager extension, the ThreadsLib shared library (if running on a PowerPC machine), and the Macintosh Drag and Drop extension are installed on the workstation. Thread Manager, ThreadsLib, and Macintosh Drag and Drop are provided in the Extras folder that came with this software.
Note: The "User and Group Manager" application also makes use of the Geneva-10 font. Some "minimal" System Installs may not install this font. Make sure you have a copy of the Geneva-10 bitmap font installed for best results.
Installing the AppleShare Agent
To install the AppleShare Agent on your AppleShare server:
1) If you are using System Software older than version 7.5, make sure the Thread Manager extension and the ThreadsLib shared library (if the server is running on a PowerPC machine) are installed in the Extensions folder of the server. Thread Manager and ThreadsLib are provided in the Extras folder that came with this software.
2) Copy the AppleShare Agent file into the Extensions folder of the server
